Pond Inlet & Mittimatalik

On Admiralty Inlet on the very northwest side of Baffin Island.

Named after the whaling ship, the Arctic, in 1872, it is the site of quite a large community (mainly Inuktitut) called Ikpiarjuk, and a popular location to visit for expedition cruise ships. There is a museum and Ikpiarjuk a good place to learn about the culture. The area is great to ship cruise and explore for wildlife.

Feachem Bay opens from Buchan Gulf on Baffin Island's east coast, beneath steep Arctic cliffs and broad tundra slopes. Expedition ships approach by Zodiac when wind, swell and local conditions allow. Ashore, walking routes may cross stony beaches, glacial moraine and low tundra, while the sheltered water creates useful viewpoints back toward the cliffs.

This is a flexible expedition landing, not a guaranteed port call. Aurora lists possible muskoxen, Arctic foxes and seals, with occasional polar-bear or whale sightings; all wildlife is wild and cannot be promised. Follow the expedition team's route, keep required distances and expect the landing plan to change with weather, sea ice and wildlife.
