Polartours

Janssonius has been purpose-built to meet all the latest and highest Lloyd’s Register specifications for ice-strengthened cruise ships. Surpassing the requirements of the Polar Code adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Janssonius is one of the most flexible, advanced, and innovative antarctic cruise vessels. Her owner's philosophy is to bring her passengers closer than ever before to the beauty and wonder of the Southern Ocean and the Antarctic region.

Boasting high-quality amenities and onboard entertainments, the comfort of Janssonius does not come at an environmental price - she's one of the most sustainable antarctic exploration vessels currently operating. This means that when you sail aboard Janssonius, you get to enjoy the exotic landscapes and wildlife as much as possible while impacting them as little as possible.

Janssonius offers high-quality accommodation for only 170 passengers in six grand suites with balconies, eight junior suites, eight superior cabins, 11 twin deluxe cabins, 14 twin window cabins, as well as 27 twin porthole cabins, two triple porthole cabins, and four quadruple porthole cabins. One deck consists of a large observation lounge with a separate lecture room, used for a wide variety of interactive workshops, exhibitions, and performances. Despite her elegant and stylish mid-century modern décor, this vessel has a distinctive cozy and informal atmosphere.

It's the ship's philosophy to keep sea time short so that the focus can be on fast, effective access to the shore and near-shore activities. To give passengers the maximum contact with nature and wildlife they have come so far to see, Janssonius operates a fleet of tough rigid-hull inflatable Zodiac boats that guarantee swift and safe landing operations.

Janssonius' priority is to take advantage of every wildlife and terrain opportunity as it occurs. With her advanced stabilizers and powerful engines, she can react to changing ice, sea, and wildlife conditions to bring you the very best encounters.

Janssonius's take on sustainable traveling

Foremost among our sustainability goals are actively reducing the impact and emission of our vessels, investing in new technology, and continuously improving our existing resources. We have also installed a new low-emission engine in our veteran vessel, Ortelius. This engine complies with all the latest environmental legislation. Another of our important commitments to sustainability is our use of low-sulfur marine gas oil (LSMGO), which has a sulfur content of less than 0.1 percent.\n\nWe limit onboard waste production by recycling as often as we can as well as banning single-use plastics. This ship does not use straws, plastic cups, or any individually wrapped butter, yogurt, and jam. This vessel has a water treatment system and desalination system that uses reverse osmosis, allowing us to eliminate the use of plastic water bottles on board. Rather, guests receive a reusable water bottle they can refill on the vessel. Bathrooms are equipped with biodegradable shampoo and soap in recycled packing, further limiting our use of plastics.

Ocean Endeavour

This ship is no longer operating, please [click here](/large-ships-cruises) to find similar ships. The *Ocean Endeavour* is a breath of fresh air compared to some of the Antarctic cruise ships of old and it’s quickly become one of our favorites thanks to the things they do differently on board. Firstly, the *Ocean Endeavour* provides a class-leading ratio of 1 crew member per 8 passengers, giving you a more personal, informative, and comfortable Antarctic adventure. The ship also features a focus on health and wellness. The onboard spa, gym, and sauna are overseen by the ship’s health and wellness expert, and there is a dedicated medical center with a permanent onboard doctor and paramedic. Life aboard *Ocean Endeavour* is as relaxed or as engaged as you want it to be. The onboard spa, library, hot tub, sauna, gift shop, multiple lounges, and viewing areas offer comfort and relaxation. Her fleet of modern Zodiac boats will bring you closer to the wildlife and stunning beauty of Antarctica than you thought possible, while her unique fly deck offers unobstructed 360° views from a high vantage point. *Ocean Endeavour* certainly has a cool vibe about her, and yet her programming is designed to enhance your understanding and appreciation of the Antarctic regions you’ll visit. Presentations, workshops, entertainment, and special events complete the excursions. From dances to polar plunges, from lounge concerts to theme parties, you'll have a great time with your fellow passengers and crew members!
