Welcome aboard the Sylvia Earle, a specially designed ship named after the groundbreaking marine biologist and environmentalist, Dr. Sylvia Earle. It was launched in late 2022 and combines advanced maritime technology with a deep appreciation for the natural world. With a maximum capacity of 130 guests, the Sylvia Earle offers a more intimate and community-oriented experience, allowing like-minded travelers to connect while exploring the most remote and breathtaking polar regions on the planet.

The ship boasts the innovative Ulstein X-BOW® design, which allows for smoother sailing and improved fuel efficiency. It offers a variety of cabin options, comfortable public spaces, a Mudroom for storing gear, and wellness amenities such as a heated saltwater pool, sauna, and gym. It also has multiple zodiac boarding platforms, making it an elegant base camp and a launching point for adventures. The Sylvia Earle is unique in that it has tribute decks dedicated not only to Dr. Earle, but also to six other pioneering women in conservation, making it a floating advocate for environmental change.

Food & Drinks on board the Sylvia Earle

Arguably the most important part of any trip- The food! A Sylvia Earle polar cruise offers hearty delicious cuisine with a variety of options and courses for each meal. Mealtimes are a great way to get to know your fellow travelers in the open seating dining room. Tea, coffee, and various snacks are available 24 hours a day. Enjoy a wide range of house wine, beers, and soft drinks included with dinner, perfect after a long day of exploration.

Every passenger is also invited to join the cruise ship captain and expedition team for Welcome and Farewell drinks, which include complimentary cocktails and appetizers. The bars and lounges aboard the Sylvia Earle are a tasteful, yet inviting place to gather with new friends. Enjoy the sunset through the floor-to-ceiling windows that offer stunning views. The friendly bartenders aboard the ship will quench your thirst and entertain you with stories of their previous adventures.

Sylvia Earle's take on sustainable traveling

The Sylvia Earle is a ship that prioritizes sustainability. It is one of the most environmentally friendly ships in its class, with an 80% decrease in emissions due to its efficient design and low-impact operational systems. The use of GPS and thrusters instead of traditional anchoring helps protect fragile seafloor ecosystems, and all activities on board are aimed at minimizing waste.

The ship has completely eliminated the use of single-use plastics. Guests are provided with reusable water bottles to fill up at designated stations, and plastic water bottles are not sold. The bathrooms are stocked with biodegradable toiletries in recycled packaging, and the ship observes "Fish-less Fridays" to promote sustainable dining. On the Sylvia Earle, sustainability also means education. Through a fully equipped Citizen Science Center, an engaging Citizen Science Program, and expert-led lectures, guests are encouraged to deepen their understanding of the polar regions and become advocates for conservation themselves. Every aspect of the voyage is carefully planned to minimize impact and inspire long-term awareness and action.
