+26

Le Commandant Charcot is a purpose-built luxury polar exploration vessel designed to reach some of the most remote regions of the Arctic and Antarctic while offering an exceptionally comfortable onboard experience. Engineered to navigate deep into heavy sea ice, including voyages to the Geographic North Pole, it combines true expedition capability with elegant contemporary design and advanced hybrid-electric LNG propulsion.

What sets the ship apart is how practical exploration and refined comfort come together so naturally. Public spaces are bright, spacious, and centred around the landscape, with panoramic lounges, large observation areas, wellness facilities, indoor pool, spa, theatre, and beautifully designed restaurants. Everywhere on board, the focus remains on the outside world: the ice, wildlife, changing light, and vast open horizons.

All staterooms and suites feature private balconies, large panoramic windows, generous bathrooms, and warm, modern interiors inspired by Scandinavian design. Some include separate lounges, dining areas, expansive terraces, butler service, and outdoor jacuzzis.

Le Commandant Charcot also has a strong scientific dimension, with dedicated research spaces on board and regular collaborations that support polar studies. Guests benefit from this through enriching lectures, expert presentations and participation.

Activities vary by itinerary and conditions, but can include Zodiac cruises, guided shore landings, kayaking, snowshoeing, polar plunges, wildlife observation, photography opportunities, and expert-led talks. This combination of real exploration, scientific insight, and exceptional comfort makes Le Commandant Charcot one of the most distinctive polar ships in the world.

Food & Drinks on board the Le Commandant Charcot

Life on board Le Commandant Charcot is also about pleasure, sharing, and unforgettable dining moments in the middle of the ice. The culinary experience is truly exceptional, led by French savoir-faire and elevated gastronomy.

The highlight is Le Nuna, the only Alain Ducasse restaurant at sea, offering an outstanding menu specially created by the Michelin-starred chef. Guests can enjoy some of his signature dishes in an intimate, refined setting, surrounded by the polar world outside. Every detail reflects elegance and French art de vivre, from Ligne Roset furniture, to Bernardaud porcelain, and Elne glassware, making each à la carte breakfast, lunch, and dinner feel truly special.

For a more relaxed atmosphere, Sila (The Sky) welcomes guests in a bright 320 m² space designed for comfort and conviviality. Here, breakfast, generous buffet lunches, and themed dinners are served in a warm and easygoing setting — perfect after a day of exploration in the Arctic or Antarctic.

Dining on board is not just about food, but about moments: sharing stories, watching drifting ice through panoramic windows, and enjoying world-class cuisine in one of the most remote places on Earth.

Le Commandant Charcot's take on sustainable traveling

What makes Le Commandant Charcot so special is that she explores with respect. She is one of the most advanced eco-designed polar ships ever built, using a hybrid LNG-electric propulsion system to dramatically reduce emissions and noise. This means less impact on the fragile polar environments and more harmony with wildlife around you. Even her operations — from waste systems to navigation — are built around one idea: exploring responsibly, so these places remain untouched for generations to come.

And lastly, she is also the first hybrid electric polar exploration vessel powered by liquefied natural gas, exploring the most inaccessible shores.
