Although I have participated in many wildlife-focused tours throughout the world, this was my first trip to the Arctic and my first ship-based expedition. In short, I had an amazing experience! The expedition team all had impressive resumes and worked hard to meet the individual preferences of the guests. Through shore excursions and zodiac cruises, they made the natural and human history of Svalbard come alive. We spent two days in the pack ice far from shore in an otherworldly experience. We were fortunate enough to find three different polar bears on our voyage but sightings of birds, seals, reindeer, walrus, whales and arctic foxes kept us busy throughout the journey.

This was my first boat exploration trip and it exceeded my expectations. Of course, the first polar bear on the open ice was the highlight. She was magnificent! The crew aboard the Plancius was excellent. The guides were excellent as well, each had their own areas of expertise which was helpful for the detailed knowledge and answers to our questions we were looking for. I also enjoyed glacier and bird explorations in the zodiacs.

Eine tolle Reise auf einem tollen Schiff... Wir waren zu zweit auf der "Albatros" vom 30. Mai bis zum 6. Juni unterwegs von Nordnorwegen nach Spitzbergen: das Wetter war fast durchgehend schön die See ruhig mit geringem Wellengang und Dünung das Schiff - erst 2 Jahre alt - war einfach toll und aufgrund der geringen Größe (nur 180 Passagiere) auch nicht überlaufen. Die Kabine sehr geräumig mit Balkon. die Landschaft mit den Gletschern und die Fjorde auf Spitzbergen unvergesslich! die Ausflüge gut organisiert und mit den Zodiaks unproblematisch die Tierwelt (Vögel, Rentiere, Walrösser, Eisbären) ein Traum. Empfehlung: Superteleobjektiv 600 mm mitnehmen

The Arctic tour is such a pure and new experience that I would recommend to everyone. We could see wild animals and amazing landscape, and all from a really comfortable ship with a great team and all the facilities.

The trip exceeded my expectations. I booked almost on impulse, joining a friend who was already going, and had some apprehensions, both about the idea of "a cruise" and the prospect of the zodiac transfers for the landings. I needn't have worried. The atmosphere was relaxed, the 16-strong expedition team were friendly, approachable and totally professional, as were the 50+ crew members who managed the ship, the meals and bar, and the cabin servicing. Highlights were the landing on Jan Mayen, and the two landings on Svalbard itself towards the end of the trip. There was a wide age range among the passengers so no-one felt left out.
