Bariloche in the little Patagonia

Explore the beautiful lakes and landscape

Information about Bariloche

Welcome to Bariloche and the Argentine Lake District! San Carlos de Bariloche, as it is officially known, lies in the Argentine Province of Rio Negro at the foothills of the Andes and the shores of the beautiful Nahuel Huapi Lake. It serves as the entrance point to the protected Nahuel Huapi National Park with its postcard-worthy views of mountains, forests and lakes. It is thus a major tourism center attracting locals and foreigners for skiing, biking, water sports, trekking and mountaineering. For Argentine teens it is also the most popular destination for graduation trips.

You should not miss the most popular attractions: the Circuito Chico tour, the chairlift to the Campanario Mountain and the hikes to Refugio Frey, Cerro Catedral and the Gutierrez Lake. With its location at the border with Chile, it is also the perfect gateway for the rewarding Andean Crossing to the neighboring and similarly beautiful Chilean Lake and Volcano District around Puerto Varas. The region around Bariloche is also known as "Argentina's Switzerland" and you will soon notice why it deserves the name with its beautiful snow-capped mountains, lakes and forests. The reason does not only lie in the Alpine landscape though, but also in the cultural influence of the early immigrants from Alpine countries. Well aware of this old nickname, the locals added more of this Alpine touch to the city's Architecture and decoration. Due to this influence it has also developed a great offer of renown craft beer and chocolates which you have to try on your visit to this astonishing city!
